dental fillings & anti-cavity strategies
Pediatric dentists have special training in helping anxious children feel secure during dental treatment. And, pediatric dental offices are designed for children. Our staff member choose to work in a pediatric dental practice because they like kids. So, most children are calm, comfortable and confident for their visits.
Please download our "Tips on How to Prepare Your Child For A Filling Visit" for specific suggestions and recommendations.
Occasionally, we may suggest nitrous oxide sedation during your child's filling visit. Nitrous oxide / oxygen is a blend of two gases, oxygen and nitrous oxide. When inhaled, it is absorbed by the body and has a calming effect. Normal breathing eliminates nitrous oxide/oxygen from the body. Nitrous oxide / oxygen is perhaps the safest sedative in dentistry. it is not addictive. Your child remains fully conscious and keeps all natural reflexes when breathing nitrous oxide / oxygen. If the sights, sounds, or sensations of dental treatment worry your child, he or she may respond more positively with the use of "happy air."
Please be advised there is a separate fee for nitrous oxide sedation that is usually not covered by insurance.
Frequently, parents ask us if there is anything extra they can do at home to help prevent new decay or aid in slowing the progression of beginning cavities/weak spots. Please download our "Anti-Cavity Products" form for recommendations that Dr. Gila and Dr. Megan can tailor for your child's unique needs. We also recommend that you view the recommended "Snack List" as well as information on "Common Causes of Decay."
