General Anesthesia
Dental treatment with general anesthesia provided
by a medical pediatric anesthesiologist
Dr. Dorostkar has been working with a pediatric medical anesthesiologist team since 1999. We are the only office in Marin County who provides this specialized care.
Who Can Benefit?
Young children are often unable to manage the sound of drilling, the fear of pain, and holding still while they are being treated in our dental office. Older children may also experience anxiety. For children who have extensive tooth decay requiring multiple visits, who are severely anxious or have special sensory issues, or are simply too young to understand and cooperate for dental care, nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is often not enough to help them relax. These children can benefit from general anesthesia.

Board Certified Pediatric Anesthesiologist MD
General anesthesia provided by a trained pediatric medical anesthesiologist can help minimize fears and ensure that a young child’s care is completed comfortably and safely, helping to promote a positive attitude towards dental treatment going forward. There was a time when general anesthesia was only administered in hospitals, but with today’s technological advances in anesthesia and monitoring equipment, we have the ability to create a safe and convenient setting right here in our office. By having the procedure performed in the dental office, parents can avoid the inconvenience and additional expense of a hospital visit, while children can receive dental treatment in the comfort of a familiar setting.

Our pediatric medical anesthesiologist, Dr. Steve Long, has been providing general anesthesia in our practice for over a decade. In addition to this care in pediatric dental and oral surgery offices around the Bay Area, Dr. Long is on staff at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland and also part of the pediatric anesthesia team at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek.
Dr. Long comes to our office on average one to two days per month to provide general anesthesia services.
